We have to measure in all situations of life ...
The location

Laterns is a small village in western Austria. In winter there are many tourists for skiing and riding their snowboards, but it is also in summer a very nice area. There is a bob slide and you can go hiking. We chose this snowboard area because it is not far away from our office and it is small and cozy – so the perfect place for our photo shooting.

The Riders Diary
Hi my name is Hannes. I volunteered to be the rider for the "In the Cold" extreme measuring stunt. Like other pro riders, I did not prepare the snowboard myself. My colleague and "assistant" Andreas took over the assignment to fix the Bode 100 on the snowboard. This must have been a challenging exercise. A special construction had to be designed to ensure that the Bode 100 stays in the right position on the board.
In the video below, you can see my colleague Andreas explain how he attached the Bode 100 onto the snowboard.
The day of the photo shooting started as a perfect bluebird. The weather was sunny and hardly any clouds were up in the sky. So it seemed to be perfect day and even the temperature of 15°C was very warm for the beginning of February in Austria.
On our way to the skiing area in Laterns, we stopped at a small bakery to gain energy for the day and to discuss the set up possibilities for the stunt. The typical Austrian "Apfelstrudel" tasted good and almost made us forget that we had no idea about the conditions awaiting us in the ski resort. We had heard that Laterns has a fun park, but we had no idea about its condition. Moreover it was not clear if we could shoot there without being interrupted by other skiers and snowboarders. If everything would have gone wrong, we would have had to find a calm place off the slope where we could have built our own ramp.
As soon as we arrived at the skiing area of Laterns, we took our backpacks, skies and snowboards and started spotting for the right location. As you can see on our photos, the fun park in Laterns turned out to be a very good location for us. Honestly, I was very happy when I saw the perfectly shaped ramps glowing in the warm morning sun.
I almost couldn't hold myself back from riding down the fun park. But before I could give it a go, we had to prepare the set up. Running up and down the fun park was a breathtaking warm up. I was happy to find some rest while my colleague Andreas helped me to put on the measurement equipment. Wired with the IBD Futurepad on my chest and the Bode 100 on the Snowboard, I felt like a robot. After we went through the setup and took some video takes of it, I was ready for my first jump.
I was a bit scared because it was quite challenging to remember checking the measurement set up. There were so many things to think of like the standby mode of the tablet PC for example. But when everything went well at my first jump a load was taken off my mind.
As I was back on the top of the snowboard park, I recognized that the first jump already forced a victim. The wooden table, on which the Bode 100 was fixed, was broken. In the first moment, we all were shocked and did not know whether we could continue with the shooting or not. My colleagues checked the whole equipment and we were very happy to find that our robust Bode 100 did not get damaged at all. Everything was okay and so we continued with the photo shooting.
<xml> </xml> Of course the film crew was not satisfied with two or three good pictures. That meant that I had to walk up the slope again and again. For the film crew, it was funny sitting in the shade cheering at me with calls like "Hannes, the fearless rider", "Go Hannes Go" or singing "I am walking". I walked and jumped, walked and jumped,... – just thinking "I could should have eaten one more Apfelstrudel". I recognized that the temperature was not quite as comfortable as it felt at the beginning of the shooting.
I was very happy to get some break while giving an interview between the jumps. Needless to say that the film crew had had to be patient with me waiting until I was able to speak clearly and stopped gasping for air. At the end of the shooting I was quite exhausted and felt all my muscles burning. So the team and I decided to visit our favorite pizzeria near the office in Klaus. I think I never ate a pizza as fast as I did on that day. All in all it was an eventful and exciting day.
